Hello and welcome to our Bocce Registration page. This "tournament" is a part of Mount Pleasant's "Active Day in The Park". There will be 4 different time slots of 30 minutes each with 3 playing fields available per time slot. Teams can have 1, 2, or 4 players - play as a family or gather your friends and neighbours to make up your team. One Team Lead registrant can complete the information for their team's players: first and last names and contact info (email addresses not required).
Please see below for the rules of play for this "tournament." There will be judges keeping scores and in the end there will be 3 prizes for the First, Second and Third places. One team is allowed per time slot. No double booking please so we can give a chance for everyone to be involved. And don't forget to sign up for the Horseshoes tournament while you're here and save time on the day to participate in or watch our exercise and tai-chi classes or the many children's activities on offer.
There are many different ways of playing Bocce. This is the version we’ll use for our "tournament."
Object of the game: To roll your bocce balls closer to the pallino (target) ball than your opponent.
Players: Two teams of one (four balls each), two (two balls each), or four (one ball each) players per team.
Playing Bocce:
Balls are tossed or rolled underhand.
A coin toss determines who starts the game by tossing the pallino toward the opposite end of the play area.
A player from the other team then throws a bocce ball toward the pallino. Taking alternate turns, each team throws their balls toward the pallino to (A) get their ball closest to the pallino, (B) to move the pallino closer to their ball, or (C) move the opponent's ball.
After all balls are tossed, the game “judge” determines the score for that frame and keeps track of each team’s score throughout the game. In each frame, only the team whose ball is closer to the pallino scores. One point is given for each bocce ball that is closer to the pallino than the opposing team’s bocce balls. If a ball is touching the pallino, that ball scores two points.
The winning team begins the next frame by throwing the pallino. Frames are played alternately from one end of the court to the other.
The team which first scores 20 points wins the game. If neither team has reached 20 points by the end of 30 minutes, the team with the most points wins.
