Glückspilz translates to “lucky mushroom”. The red capped mushroom with white spots has been a symbol of good fortune for centuries in Germany, Austria, and other parts of Europe. In Germanic folklore, these mushrooms (Amanita muscaria) were believed to appear in areas blessed by fairy gathering or magical forces.

Historically, people would gift small mushroom shaped ornaments during Christmas and New Year’s to wish luck, health and prosperity for the year ahead.

For this class, you will be sculpting and painting your own lucky Christmas tree ornaments out of oven baked clay. Bring home your own lucky mushroom for a prosperous new year!
