Play HORSESHOE, "Active Day in The Park" - Saturday, August 21st, 2021
Mount Pleasant Community Association
10:30 – 14:00
Hello and welcome to our Horseshoes Registration page.  This "tournament" is part of Mount Pleasant's "Active Day in the Park".  There will be 4 different time slots of 30 minutes each with 2 horseshoe pits available per time slot.  Teams can have 1 or 2 players (4 if you would like to form a team with your children).  Play as a family or recruit a friend or neighbours to round out your team.  One Team Lead registrant can complete the information for their team's players: first and last names and contact info (email addresses not required).  Please see below for the rules of play for this tournament. There will be judges keeping scores and in the end there will be 3 prizes for the First, Second and Third places. One team is allowed per time slot. No double booking please so we can give a chance for everyone to be involved. And don't forget to sign up for the Bocce "tournament" while you're here and save time on the day to participate in or watch our exercise and tai-chi classes or the many children's activities on offer. Active Day in the Park Horseshoes Rules of Play There are many different ways of playing Horseshoes.  This is the version we’ll use for our "tournament." Object of the game:  To toss your horseshoes closer to the stake than your opponent. Players: Two teams of one or two players per team. Players must stand with both feet behind the line and within the sides of the court while pitching. A coin is tossed to decide who starts and thereafter the player to pitch first alternates with the end. Throws must be underarm. The first team throws both its horseshoes at the opposite stake, one after the other. The second team then does the same thing. The score for the end is then calculated and the players play the next end by reversing direction and throwing at the other stake. Scoring will be determined by the game “judge” as follows: Any horseshoe that completely surrounds the stake is called a "ringer" and scores three points unless cancelled out by an opponent’s ringer. If no ringers are thrown, the nearest horseshoe to the stake counts one point. If both players throw a single ringer each, the ringers are cancelled out and the nearest of the other two horseshoes scores one point. Should both players score two ringers each, they cancel each other out and no points are scored. If one player manages one ringer but the other player pitches two ringers, three points are scored If a single ringer has been scored that player wins three points plus an extra point if that player's other horseshoe is the closest of the remaining three. Finally, if a player achieves two ringers and the other player manages none, six points are scored. Note - shoes that lean against the stake are not counted nearer than any other shoe that touches the stake. The team which first scores 20 points wins the game.  If neither team has reached 20 points by the end of 30 minutes, the team with the most points wins. We hope to see you all there!
