Glückspilz translates to “lucky mushroom”. The red capped mushroom with white spots has been a symbol of good fortune for centuries in Germany, Austria, and other parts of Europe. In Germanic folklore, these mushrooms (Amanita muscaria) were believed to appear in areas blessed by fairy gathering or magical forces.   Historically, people would gift small mushroom shaped ornaments during Christmas and New Year’s to wish luck, health and prosperity for the year ahead.   For this class, you will be sculpting and painting your own lucky Christmas tree ornaments out of oven baked clay. Bring home your own lucky mushroom for a prosperous new year!   *Registration opens on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 10:00am   Crafternoons are two-hour classes that are sponsored by MPCA and include all materials and the use of tools, with guidance by experienced artisans. Join the TUESDAY Fall Session of our fun and relaxed parent and child playgroup! Parents and caregivers of little ones aged 0 to 5 are welcome to be a part of our unstructured and child-led playgroup, running from 9:15 to 11:15 am in the Lower Hall of the Mount Pleasant Community Centre. It's a wonderful opportunity for children to explore, play, and make new friends while adults get to connect and share the joys and challenges of parenting. This playgroup is open to everyone! Not just Mount Pleasant residents.  Our group runs and thrives on volunteer efforts! Keyholders are especially important as they open and close the hall each week for the group - if we do not have enough volunteers for the keyholder position, we will have to cancel. We also have a shared snack duty. *Please note: We must register all participants, including infants and drop-ins as there is a building capacity.  Registration must be completed by the child's guardian, not a nanny or day home provider. A nanny can be added as the adult attending playgroup. You are required to have a Mount Pleasant Community Association (MPCA) membership before you buy a ticket for the Playgroup Event. If you have not registered for a MPCA Membership yet, 1) click on the LOGIN button (top right), enter your email and follow the steps to make a login. 2) Go to Membership link (top middle) to purchase a membership. MPCA memberships are non-refundable. Please contact playgroup@mpca.ca with any questions, or go to www.mpca.ca/playgroup for more information.
